Recently I have been privileged to witnes the way two local missions work and it's been a real been a way to soften my sometimes hard and skeptical heart.
The first one I was a part of and it was only the training for the actual mission coming up in January. Peninsula SUFM (Scripture Union Family Mission). I saw a large group of people from all different backgrounds and age groups coming to share God's love with children and families camped along the Rosebud Foreshore. Wether it be through music, games, stories, stupidly over the top activities (Joshy) or just in conversations with others these missionaries were excited to be sharing God's love with others. To be honest it started to put me to shame. I'd stayed away far too long. It was great to be a part of something so genuine and practical again, working with people who want to be doing something for others while building a long term relationship. Top notch!
The second mission I wanted to talk about is the Red Frogs Chaplaincy program based in Rye. We went down to visit these guys with the church group I'm a part of, The Huddle. These guys spend their time in humble service to Schoolies who are enjoying their well deserved holidays partying hard down on the Peninsula. It was great to beable to see these guys serving those around them by talking to them, providing water, red frog lollies, pancake breakfasts, free bus trips, etc...
We were lucky enough to be able to join the Red Frogs team in their worship and prayer time later on in the eavening and it was great tp hear them remind each other that they were here to serve and that by serving they were showing God's love to the young people around them. It was also great to see the way Red Frogs were able to work alongside the council and Police to make sure everyone had a safe and fun time.
Serving the community while serving God. Where could you go wrong!
